Factors of Acquisition of Arabic as A Second Language

Abstract

Acquiring Arabic as a second language as an individual who is not a native Arabic speaker certainly goes through a very long process of learning and using Arabic. The acquisition of a second language and the acquisition of a mother tongue are different things. The context of mother language acquisition is natural, while second language acquisition requires supporting factors. Acquiring a second language requires a complex process that occurs due to several factors which are influenced by several aspects such as age, motivation, learning environment, mother tongue, intelligence, and cultural influences. This research uses a literature study method by analyzing relevant literature, including scientific journals, books and previous studies which discuss the acquisition of a second language, namely Arabic. The results of this review show that internal and external factors play an important role in the acquisition of this language. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze factors that influence language acquisition, both internally and externally from a psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic perspective.
