Training on Making Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) as an Effort to Increase the Economic Value of Coconut Fruit at Desa Tangofa

Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) products are a type of vegetable oil from coconut that is very popular in the world. VCO has been widely researched and is superior because it is proven to have many benefits for human health. One simple method that can be used is the mechanical method. This method utilizes mechanical power by rotating the stirrer so that the emulsion breaks down and produces VCO. The problem that occurs at Desa Tangofa, Bungku Pesisir District is the lack of knowledge and information regarding processing coconut into VCO. Therefore, the team from the Mineral Chemical Engineering study program of the Politeknik Industri Logam Morowali is interested in carrying out community service activities related to coconut which is a resource at Desa Tangofa, especially in the process of processing coconut into VCO. Community service activities are carried out by delivering basic material related to VCO and followed by the process of making VCO. Then the VCO that has been made is analyzed in a standardized laboratory with the results in accordance with Indonesian National Standards.
